For this project, I teamed up with Wout van Wengerden and Patrick Kiwanuka to create a film about courage, letting go, and literally setting things in motion. Under the title Daag Je Uit (Challenge Yourself), we followed Patrick at a turning point in his life. Patrick felt stuck. In systems, in routines, in expectations placed on him. But he had a strong urge to break free, to leave, to begin again. So we hit the road with him. Wout had earlier launched a challenge day for people who felt stuck, and from that idea our collaboration and this film were born.
We set out together without a fixed script but with a shared intention: this story needed to be told. In that openness, real moments began to unfold. Conversations, silences, decisions. And eventually, movement. Two weeks after filming, Patrick bought a one-way ticket. He’s now cycling through Morocco. This project captures what I love most: getting close to people, following the flow of real life, and documenting stories that might otherwise go unnoticed. Working with Wout, who has an incredible gift for asking the right questions, and Patrick, who opened up with such honesty, was deeply inspiring.
Eventually, we held a premiere featuring three of my other films at the Zwarte Doos in Eindhoven, during an event called Inspirerende Uitdagingen. If you want to read more about it
